Queensbury sits high and exposed — it catches weather well before Bradford in the valley below does, and it holds onto it longer. That has a direct and underrated effect on doors. Timber swells in prolonged damp and shrinks back in dry cold. uPVC and composite slabs expand and contract with temperature. Frames on older stone property move with the building.
The practical result is a seasonal pattern I see every year: doors that were fine in August start catching in November, and by January the handle needs lifting hard or the key won't quite turn. People assume the lock has failed and start ringing round for a replacement mechanism. Very often the lock is fine and the door has simply moved a few millimetres relative to its keeps, which is an adjustment rather than a part.
Where it does need parts, exposure matters too. Cheap padlocks on outbuildings and gates seize solid up here within a couple of winters. If you're buying for an exposed door or gate, buy something weather-rated — it's the difference between a lock that lasts a decade and one that lasts two winters.
