The doors round here
Bradford's housing splits roughly three ways, and each one brings its own lock problems. The Victorian terraces and back-to-backs through Heaton, Manningham, Girlington and Great Horton mostly still have timber front doors — rim nightlatches, sometimes with a mortice deadlock underneath, sometimes not. If yours has only a nightlatch, your insurer may well expect a British Standard deadlock too.
Then there are the inter-war and post-war semis out through Wibsey, Eccleshill, Idle and Thornbury. Most of these had their original timber doors swapped for uPVC or composite somewhere between 1995 and 2010. Those doors are fine — but the multipoint gearbox inside them has a service life, and a lot of them are hitting it now. The warning sign is having to lift the handle harder than you used to.
And Bradford has a big private-rented sector, which means a steady run of lock changes at changeover. If you're a landlord and you don't know how many sets of keys are out there for a property, that's your answer: change it.
