The doors round here
Huddersfield has a large university, and that pulls a big shared-rental sector into the streets around the town centre, Marsh and Birkby. Shared housing is the single most common reason I get called out here: multiple occupants, multiple key sets, high turnover, and nobody keeping track. If you've just taken on a house and the previous tenants moved out at speed, assume the keys are still out there.
The older housing is Yorkshire stone terraces with solid timber doors — rim nightlatches, mortice deadlocks, and in some cases ironmongery that predates everyone living in the house. Those doors are worth keeping; it's normally the lock that needs attention, not the door.
Out through Lindley, Salendine Nook and the inter-war semis it's a different job. Most have had uPVC or composite doors fitted, which means euro cylinders and multipoint gearboxes. The tell that a gearbox is going is a handle that needs more and more lift before the door will lock.
