The doors round here
Batley and Carlinghow are classic West Yorkshire mill-town streets — long terraces, stone, and back yards reached by ginnels and alleys. The security picture on a street like that is fairly predictable. The front door faces the road, is overlooked by neighbours, and usually has the newest lock in the house. The back door faces a private yard nobody can see into and usually has the oldest.
That's where the cheap improvement is. A solid lock on the back door, a bolt on the yard gate, and the quiet route in stops being quiet. It's a small job and it's the one I'd do first on most terraced property round here.
Birstall and the newer estate housing are a different mix — more semis, more uPVC and composite doors, so more multipoint mechanisms and euro cylinders and fewer mortice locks.
