Otley doors, street by street
Otley's centre is an old Wharfedale market town, and the housing shows it. Burley in Wharfedale, Askwith and the outlying villages sit somewhere between the two, with older stone cottages alongside post-war and modern housing. Whichever you've got, it's worth a look at the back door, the garage side door and the patio doors — they're usually the oldest locks on the property, and on a plot with garden access they're also the quietest way in.

That's the multipoint gearbox wearing out, or the door having dropped slightly on its hinges so the bolts miss the keeps. Get it looked at while the door still opens — that's a normal repair. Once the gearbox strips and it jams shut, it becomes an emergency and costs more.
Only as a genuine last resort, and I'd tell you before I did it. On a period timber door in Otley town centre it's worth the extra time to pick or manipulate the lock instead. Non-destructive entry first, always.
A mortice deadlock certified to BS3621 on the final exit door — it'll be stamped on the faceplate — and usually key-operated locks on accessible windows. A nightlatch on its own doesn't satisfy that wording, however solid it is. I'm happy to read the exact clause with you before fitting anything.
